Over seventy years ago, a young man’s passion
for color led him to create this revolutionary nail enamel - a
creative nail polish designed by Charles Revson that used true
pigments for a stronger nail color. As this enamel’s popularity
grew, Charles soon noticed when a woman’s hand moved close to
her mouth, her polish would clash with her lipstick. This
inspiration led to the creation of coordinating colors between
nails and lips, followed by a hugely successful advertising
campaign.
Revlon, the cosmetic color sensation, was born
from this savvy of Charles, his brother Joseph and the help of
chemist Charles Lachman. Mr. Lachman was such an integral part
of the company’s success that he added the “L” to Revlon. As the
company’s color offerings become widely known, they stimulated
the organization’s growth into a colorful array of cosmetic and
beauty products. With a simple start as a color enhanced nail
polish, the business exploded and within six years had become a
multi-million dollar company.
In addition to the innovative vivid products,
Revlon also possessed a skill in advertising. Maintaining the
All-American brand image, they highlighted U.S. models to the
rest of the world. In the 1970s, they launched their first
perfume, Charlie, named after the founder Charles Revson.
Designed as the cologne for young working women, it became a
instant best-seller and is still widely available even today.
At the time that Revlon hit the top; the
number one brand in mass color cosmetics went public. The year
was 1996 and the company continues as a model of independent
makeup triumph.
Revlon Today
Revlon resumes the tradition of color enhanced
makeup products. Their advertising clearly demonstrates the
belief that colorful cosmetics enhance how you feel and look.
The independent spirit of Revlon’s main focus is how beauty is
dependent on the character of the woman who wears it.
Still an American Icon, their makeup is sold
in over 175 countries across the globe. With the core cosmetics
theme being color, their product line today is still reflective
of the company’s roots.
Product Lines
Like most of its competition in the mass
cosmetics marketplace, the product line is expansive. Sold in
almost every type of location, the products are easy to find.
