Fragrance Strength Guide

Fragrance is produced in different strengths/potency. This is the result of the percentages of core ingredients and oils that are included in the fragrance. A general strength guide for this scale show below:

As you can see in the diagram above there is quite a range in fragrance strengths. The rule of thumb regarding this strength guide is that the higher the strength of a fragrance, the longer it will last on your skin.

How skin type can affect scent

A singular fragrance can smell quite different on various people for several reasons. One of these main reasons is often due to the skin type of the person using the fragrance. Different acidity levels together with moisture content of skins can affect not only the smell of a fragrance, but also its longevity. Also the environment and physical activity levels of people can affect the longevity and scent of a fragrance. As body temperatures increase, fragrance can begin to intensify. However perspiration can also contribute towards many of these factors. As fragrance scent can vary from person to person, it can often take a person several attempts to find the fragrance which is best suited to their skin type and taste.

Useful Fragrance Tips

Fragrance can be affected by regular increases in temperatures. Therefore try to avoid storing fragrance in your bathroom where temperatures vary constantly with use.

When you open a fragrance it will have direct contact with air. From this point the fragrance will start to deteriorate over time. Therefore to help make your fragrance last, minimise its exposure to air. Fragrances with an open top (splash on) maybe affected more by this as they will be likely to have more contact with air.

Heat and light can affect the scent and strength of a fragrance. A fragrance is predicted to last much longer if you keep the fragrance away from extreme temperatures and light.

Fragrance can be applied to clothes as well as the skin. Although this may affect the strength and longevity of the fragrance, this is a good alternative if you have sensitive skin.
