It
can be hard to find a headband to go with your hair, your
outfit, and to feel comfortable. There are many potential
headbands and hair-ties waiting to be found in old clothes
lying around your house, and the best thing about them is
that they are made with cloth to avoid breaking your hair.
1.
Use old Pantyhose
Pantyhose can be cut up and utilized as hair accessories
that are soft, washable and they can be made to match any
color hair or outfit. Cut the elastic waistband out of a
pair of pantyhose for a headband, and if that is not long
enough simply cut the entire leg and tie the headband into
the needed length. Using a piece on the thigh will also
work as a headband, and cutting near the ankles will give
you perfect ponytail holder sized bands for your hair.
2.
Cut up your Trouser Socks and Thigh Highs
Trouser
socks come in a much larger range of colors and patterns
than pantyhose. Cut the top of the sock and stretch it for
an interesting and comfortable headband.
3.
Tie a Shoelace Around your Hair
The
cloth composition of a shoelace makes it a safe choice for
pulling back brittle locks. Fat shoelaces look especially
cute tied with a bow to the side worn with a short
haircut.
4.
Snag a Strapless Bra Strap
Some
bras are strapless, but come with optional straps. These
strapless bra straps can be used as a great adjustable
headband. Use them to keep hair in place and put a scarf
over it or wear as is for comfortable swept back
hairstyles.
5.
Try Using your Favorite Scarf
With a
little folding and a bit of patience, your favorite scarf
can double as the perfect headband with no cutting
involved. Fold the scarf into the desired width, about
2
inches. Wrap the scarf around the
hair to hold it back. Use another headband like the
pantyhose headband or a bra strap to keep your hair firmly
in place if the scarf is a slippery material. Fold the
ends of the scarf under the wrapped around fabric to hide
them.
6.
Fashion Ribbon Around your Hair
Whether
fat or thin, a ribbon headband is a popular choice by
celebrities, and is a look that can be acquired by anyone
with some ribbon and some scissors. Check the fabric
stores for beautiful decorative ribbon that can tie hair
into a ponytail or be wrapped around an up-do for classic
hair beauty.
7.
Be Creative and Design your Own
If you
are bored with plain plastic headbands, add your own
adornments and design the perfect band for you. Use a hot
glue gun to affix jewels, beads, or pieces of other
plastic or cloth to your plastic headband.
