When
we think of hair trends, most of us probably think of
women’s hair. What most of us don’t realize is that hair
trends don’t stop with just women. Today’s guys are just
as involved with what’s hot in the latest hairstyles as
women are and here’s the proof!
This
year, look for a lot of guys to be wearing a professional
cut. The cut is generally layered short around the ears
with tapering at the back of the head and long layers in
front, so that the bangs have a lot of versatility when
styling. This cut can be worn by most guys and can be
modified to suit individual needs. For guys with strong
square facial features, this look can be cut to add lift a
fullness along the top of the head to balance the face
shape. To maintain this look, apply a styling gel to
slightly damp hair and blow dry. If you need a little more
lift, apply a volumizing product at the roots.
Another
great look that guys are sporting this year is the messy
cut. This just out of bed look is short and neat, but with
a lot more texture. The cut is created by razoring and
styled with pomade by distributing the product through
towel-dried hair and tousle strands with fingers. To
finish this tousled look, allow the hair to dry naturally.
If you would like more volume, apply a volumizing product
to the roots of slightly damp hair. Next, blow dry roots
and tousle hair with your fingers as you dry.
Longer
hair is another great look for guys this year. While most
men are not wearing it to the shoulders, there are a few
above the shoulder styles that are catching on. Actor,
Ashton Kutcher, wears a great example of this popular
men’s hairstyle. Layers are added for lots of texturing
and a good pomade to style it.
Another
great hair trend this year is hair color. Highlights will
add a little fun to any style while softer-warmer shades
will offer life to dull and drab hair.
The
rediscover of the facial goatee has grown as well in
2007. A
Goatee can give a baby face more maturity and hide facial
flaws. The wonderful thing about beard is, they can be
shaven off without a worry if the style isn’t suitable. An
investment in a good beard trimmer is necessary to
maintain this look. Look for a trimmer that has a variety
of attachments so that you can trim your beard at
different lengths. Attachments should include: 1/8”, ¼”
3/8” and ½” at the minimum. To get the goatee
look, allow your beard to grow for about a week. Without
using shaving cream, cut in an outline with your razor.
Finish by lathering with a shaving cream and shaving out
all of the unwanted hair.
The
above are just a few ideas that can be tried with the
latest hair trends. Keep in mind that hair texture and
facial shape can play an important role in the above
styles. While one style might look great on one person, it
might not on another. If in doubt, ask your stylist!
