Mentioning
this term a few years ago may have resulted in a raised
brow and confused expression, but the term “metrosexual”
is now a concept known worldwide. But some people have
different definitions of what actually makes a man a
metrosexual. It’s time to find out the truth behind this
phenomenon once and for all.
In the
beginning, a metrosexual was a term that described a
heterosexual man who acted homosexual or bisexual. This
word has come a long way and now includes more depth to it
than originally thought. Being a metrosexual is now
celebrated as a lifestyle and doesn’t simply represent a
straight male who likes to act in a homosexual or bisexual
manner. A true metrosexual man is one who embraces his
feminine side in terms of caring about his appearance.
If your
boyfriend or husband appears overly concerned about his
outward appearance, this doesn’t necessarily mean he is a
metrosexual. The difference between a straight male who
cares about his looks and a metrosexual is that
metrosexuals go over the top when it comes to their
physical appearance, their clothes, material possessions
and how they live.
Most
die-hard metrosexuals spend a lot of time and money
investing in a top-notch wardrobe and frequenting nail
salons. These are the guys you may see next to you getting
a manicure and a pedicure. Too often people mistake a man
possessing one or two of these traits as a complete
metrosexual. There is nothing wrong with being metrosexual
but some men tend to hate being classified or labeled as
such, which is why it’s important to know if one really is
and lives the metrosexual life before calling him out.
Ladies,
if your man has nails, skin and a wardrobe that is better
than yours, he may be a true metrosexual - especially if
you already spend a small fortune to keep up your look and
lifestyle. If your guy doesn’t mind getting his nails done
once in a while but doesn’t show any other metrosexual
tendencies, don’t be quick to hide your beauty products.
Instead, applaud him for caring about his appearance.
There are many men out there who are ashamed to show their
feminine side or admit they care about catering to their
appearance, for fear that they will be unfairly labeled as
a metrosexual.
Fellas,
if you’re trying to find out if you classify as
metrosexual, check out your surroundings: do you spend a
lot of time in and out of the priciest clothing stores and
accessorizing outfits? Are your nails and toenails
immaculate and neatly filed and trimmed? Is your bathroom
stocked with the best quality skin care and beauty
products? Do you only shop and eat at the most posh places?
Do the hair stylists know you by name whenever you walk
through the door? Honey, you may be a true metrosexual.
So
what’s the lesson behind all this? There really isn’t one.
Metrosexual men can either be a girl’s dream come true or
her worst nightmare. If your guy displays metrosexual
tendencies, don’t call him out on it or make fun of him.
Praise him and show him that it’s okay to care about how
his appearance. If anything, having a man who has one or
two metrosexual traits can work in your favor when it
comes to your relationship and things that interest you.
On the other hand, if your sweetie is at full-blown
metrosexual status, there may be some things you’ll need
to get used to…like sharing the bathroom mirror.
