You
don`t have to be a metrosexual to care about your skin!
Sticking to a simple-but-effective skincare routine will
keep you looking your best and boost your self-confidence.
With men`s skincare, the best philosophy to keep in mind
is "keep it simple."
#1
Cleanse
Men
have oilier skin and much bigger pores than women. This
means your skin gets dirtier quicker, making it extremely
necessary to cleanse both in the morning and at night.
Daily cleansing is key to keeping your pores clean and
clear.
Use gentle, but effective, cleansing products. Cleansers
are available in a variety of formulations, such as:
foaming gels, creams, milky cleansers and ready-to-go
cleansing pads. Men generally prefer foaming-type products
that rinse off with water and don`t leave a residue. Avoid
using deodorant bar soaps on your face—they are too harsh
and might strip and irritate your skin.
#2
Tone
Astringents and toners formulated with glycolic, lactic or
salicylic acids will help tighten and diminish the look of
large pores and discourage ingrown hairs. If you`re
pressed for time, look for a cleanser is formulated with a
toner. You can skip this step if you have dry or
especially sensitive skin.
#3
Exfoliate
Using a
scrub helps to remove dead skin cells and smooth the
surface of the skin. Because most men shave daily, it
isn’t necessary exfoliate your entire face. Instead, focus
on the areas that aren`t touched by a razor: cheeks, nose
and forehead. When selecting a scrub, choose one without
nuts or seeds—they can tear your skin. Use a scrub once or
twice a week after cleansing.
#4
Moisturize
If
you`re super oily, you probably don`t need a moisturizer.
If you have combination or dry skin, use a non-greasy oil-free
moisturizer only wear you need it. Save time and money by
opting for a day moisturizer that contains SPF 15 or
higher. Moisturizer helps tone, calm and tighten the skin
after shaving.
If you suffer from under eye wrinkles, lines or puffiness,
use a separate eye gel. Many eye treatments are formulated
just for men. Don’t neglect your lips. Try a soothing balm
or an anti-chapping stick with an SPF of at least 15.
#5
Protect and Prevent
To keep
your skin looking young and healthy, follow these tips and
suggestions:
·
Minimize sun exposure. When you’re in the sun, be sure to
use a sunscreen of SPF or higher on exposed skin. If you
play outdoor sports, use a sweatproof sunscreen and be
sure to reapply it every two hours.
·
Stay active and fit. Regular exercise improves blood
circulation. Sluggish facial circulation can make you look
older than you are.
·
Eat healthy, colorful foods. Steer clear of processed
foods and too much sugar. Consume fresh fruits and
vegetables to ensure you get sufficient amounts of
Vitamins C and E. If your diet is less than perfect, boost
it with a multi-vitamin or other supplements.
·
Don’t overindulge. If you drink alcohol, keep it to a
minimum. In addition, try and find healthy outlets for
stress, such as running or Yoga. Excessive drinking and
stress causes the formation of free radicals in the skin
cells—a leading cause of premature aging.
·
Buy your own products. Don’t just use your girlfriend’s
moisturizer or cleanser. Men and women have very different
skin types and what works for her won’t necessarily work
for you.
