Skin and beauty care during pregnancy
Here are a few tips to making sure that
your skin and health are in top condition during those nine
months of pregnancy.
Check your existing beauty products for
their suitability
Some beauty products may be unsuitable or unsafe for
pregnant skin. Always check your existing beauty products to
make sure that they are compatible. If you find they’re not,
or are concerned, you can switch to products especially
suited for the pregnancy period.
Long baths
Long baths are not advisable since the prolonged contact
that your skin has with water can dehydrate it and leave it
looking dull.
Sun protection
Since skin pigmentation can change during pregnancy, it can
be more susceptible to tanning and/or burning. Choose
products with UV filters, and pay special attention to your
face and hands since they are the most exposed.
Moisturizing
During pregnancy, the turnover of skin cells is accelerated.
This is why you have to nourish and moisturize even more
during pregnancy than you would normally.
Balance
Maintaining pH levels is very important. Therefore, always
choose shower or bath products that are pH balanced, and
you’ll be happy about the healthy glow your skin has.
Foot gels
Don’t underestimate the power of a good foot gel. Perhaps
one with menthol, can really pep you up at the end of a long
day. Your feet are under a lot of stress during pregnancy,
and can get swollen and tired, so it will really help.
Vitamins
Eat foods that are rich in vitamins. You can also ask you
doctor for supplements.
Relax
Pregnancy can be a stressful time, so it is advised that you
just try to take it easy and relax. Apply rose water on your
face and cover it with slices of cucumber. Listen to soft
music and lay down in a darkened room. Your tensions and
worries will slip away.
Sleep
Sleep is very important. Try to get at least nine to ten
hours of sleep in a day. Minor damage that is done to your
skin during the day, due to fatigue, stress, pollution etc
is repaired during sleep, so it is absolutely essential.
Eye care
Blink your eyes for a while after washing them in cold
water. Repeat this three to four times a day, and you’ll
have a sparkle in your eye. You can treat the dark circles
under your eye by dabbing them with a cotton pad dipped in
lukewarm tea water. If your eyes have a burning sensation,
then you can put a drop of pure rose water in each eye to
relieve it.
